PicturePictured with the Davy Crockett Senior Citizen Center manager is Master Amanda Spicer, youth group president Anna McGowen, and youth group member Payton Williams.
The youth group of Lewis Institute of Mid-South Tae Park taekwondo coordinated with the local Chimes for Charity Chapter to deliver food this holiday season. On December 23, 2024, donations were loaded to be delivered to the Davy Crockett Senior Citizen Center in Union City, TN. Each resident will receive a box of food and a bag of toilet paper.
Taekwondo is more than just kicking and punching. It is a way of life. The Lewis Institute of Mid-South Tae Park taekwondo organization demonstrates and instills in its members and youth the importance of giving back to its community and helping where needed. This is the culminating event for the youth group’s community activities for this year. The donation through Chimes for Charity was organized by youth group coordinator, Master Betty Henderson.

Youth Group Helps After Hurricane Helene

Picture
The Lewis Institute Youth Group Organization has once again stepped up to help out in its community. On September 26, 2024, Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane. Helene weakened as it moved north and was downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone over Tennessee on September 27. It stalled over our state before dissipating on September 29. Helene’s fast motion caused catastrophic rainfall triggering flooding and spawning numerous tornadoes in its path- particularly in western North Carolina, Eastern Tennessee and Southwestern Virginia.

The youth group was able to send about 30 cases of water, toilet paper, diapers, baby wipes, flashlights, and batteries to help in relief efforts. Master Betty Henderson, the Youth Group Coordinator, was able to work with the Union City Walmart to have the needed supplies delivered to a drop off location in Union City, TN. On October 4, volunteers from the area left for East Tennessee to aid in the disaster recovery and relief and deliver needed supplies for our fellow Americans.
